Grid Wars is a strategic card game built on the Neo Tokyo Citizens collection. Every Citizen in the collection is a playable card — over 1,800 unique characters, each with stats, abilities, and rules derived from their traits.
Place your Citizens on a 3×3 grid and capture your opponent's cards by matching stats on adjacent sides. Win the match, claim a card, and grow your collection. Challenge random Citizens across Neo Tokyo's districts — from Byte Street grunts to Citadel executives — each with their own smack talk, tier ranking, and special rules tied to who they actually are. Build your deck from the cards you win in battle and climb from the Slums to the Citadel.
Every playable card in Grid Wars is a real Neo Tokyo Citizen. Trait metadata was queried for all 1,829 Citizens, capturing their Class, Race, Ability, Location, and combat attributes.
Each Citizen's four card stats map directly to their trait scores:
Raw trait scores (0–100) were normalized to a 1–9 scale, with the top tier reserved for S-rank — awarded to Citizens whose trait scores land in the 90th percentile or above. A card can hold a maximum of two S-ranks, preserving game balance while rewarding genuinely rare traits.
Power is further modified by Reward Rate (ranging 1–15), Race rarity, Class rarity, and Ability rarity — rarer traits push stats higher. The top 1% of Citizens by average card power are designated Legendary and can only be obtained by defeating their specific owner in a direct encounter — they never appear as random filler opponents.
Special rules derive from trait data. A Citizen's Race, Class, and Ability traits each unlock unique gameplay mechanics — Demons carry Demonic Aura, Ghosts phase-shift on placement, Slayers execute bonus captures, and so on. Every rule is a direct expression of what that Citizen actually is.
